Schwedhelm, "Zellertal" Gewurztraminer Spatlese is an intriguing white semi-sweet Ortsweine wine made from Gewurztraminer grapes grown in the vineyards of the company in the Zellertal commune 1.5 km from Schwedhelm estate. The favorable geographical position of the commune provides the best climatic conditions for growing grapes. The soil is predominantly limestone with streaks of clay and loam. Mount Donnersberg, located in the east, provides a dry and windy climate, due to which the vines are forced to go deeper into the ground in search of moisture. Grapes for wine is grown at an altitude of 220 meters above sea level. The average age of the vines - 35 years. Harvested when the berries are fully ripe, after pre-selection. Grapes have the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. Then the grapes are delivered to the winery, where the berries are easily pressed. The wort is infused within 8 hours after spinning. Natural fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine is aged for 6 months on the draft in stainless steel tanks.
Producer's description
The Schwedhelm young estate , located in the oldest wine-producing region of the Palatinate, belongs to two brothers, Stefan and Georg. In 2006, the brothers took responsibility for the management of the estate Schwedhelm with an area of 17 hectares. All vineyards are located in the municipality of Zellertal, 1.5 km from the estate at an altitude of 140 to 300 meters above sea level. The brothers are a wonderful tandem - winemaker and enologist, Stefan, well versed in the features and innovations in the field of winemaking, and the younger brother, Georg, a graduate of the business school, deals with the economic and financial nature of the company.
The main mission of the company is to create its own unique style, revealing the unique terroir of the commune of Zellertal, using a modern approach to winemaking. Relying on modernization and innovation, from 2013 to 2017, the brothers participated in the VDP Pfalz's Spitzentalente program for young winemakers (an alliance of talented German elite wine producers). Over the past year, a significant part of the investment was aimed at the development of vineyards and wineries in order to improve the level of quality of their products, a wine cellar was built for the guests. The company logo has also changed in accordance with current trends.
