Producer's description

In 1877, Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira, owner of the largest wine estates in the Douro, bought at an auction of 300 hectares of land. Her dream was to create a vineyard from scratch using its extensive experience in the field of viticulture. On the implementation of the ambitious project Quinta do Vale Meao took eight years. But for a long time to enjoy the fruits of their efforts it is unfortunately not possible. In 1896, Dona died, leaving his life's work to his heirs. In the 1970s, its direct descendant of Francisco Javier de Olazabal took control in their hands and began a long and laborious process of unification through the acquisition of various parts of the vineyard Quinta do Vale Meau that belonged to his family and the other co-owners. Only by 1994, Francisco Javier and his children became the sole owner. In 1998, he resigned as CEO of AA Ferreira SA, created the descendants of Dona Ferreira, and devoted himself to the development of society F.Olazabal & Filhos in the production and trade of wine. However, Francisco Javier run by his son, oenologist by profession, and a daughter, engaged in the sale and marketing.

In the early 80-ies of the vineyards of Quinta do Vale Meau underwent a massive upgrade, which was caused by flooding as a result of dam construction Valeira. New vineyards were planted blocks composed of single grape variety. Particular attention was paid to the variety Touriga Nacional, which is hardly grown in the Douro valley because of low yields and greater difficulties in its cultivation. This class only approached the local soil and climatic characteristics, and it has become a real decoration of vineyard management. In the production of wines traditional methods combined with modern technology. The winery is technically completely refitted, but has kept all of its architectural features. The last in 2007 was renovated wine cellar. Beginning with the first issue in 1999, the wine favorably received by critics and marked by high ratings and awards.
