"Graham's" Late Bottled Vintage - excellent port, which is produced only in the best harvest years. Unlike vintage port, which are bottled in the second year after exposure, "Late Bottled Vintage" matures within an average of 5 years in barrels made of bog oak. Port "LBV Grem's" is the leader in its category and is highly regarded among connoisseurs of port in the British Isles, which has traditionally been one of the most sophisticated and competitive markets port.
The grapes for port wine going with the greatest vineyard Malvedush, which is located on the northern shore of slate terraces at the confluence of the rivers Douro and Tua and has a southern exposure. Since the mid-1980s, the vineyard is doing a great program transplant vines, so the average age of the vines is about 20 years, but the "old" terraces it reaches even 45 years. History W & J Graham's spans three centuries, during which the well-known manufacturer of port has always been an independent family business. This is the story of two families of Scottish descent - Graham and Symington family, whose commitment to making memorable wines presented to the company Graham's reputation as a leader in the production of outstanding vintage port.
The company W & J Graham & Co was founded in the Portuguese city of Porto in 1820 by two brothers, William and John Graham. Graham family already had extensive business interests not only in his native Scotland, but also in India. The brothers founded the company W & J Graham & Co to produce the best port, to achieve which they were used a lot of energy and resources. During the 19th century the company Grem's grew, reaching excellent reputation the best producer of vintage port. In 1890 Grem's becoming one of the first companies that invested in the vineyards of the Douro. They were purchased farm Quinta dos Malvedos (Quinta shower Malvedush). Using extensive knowledge of the Douro Valley, accumulated over the previous 70 years, Graham chose an ideal place for planting a vineyard. It is of excellent southern exposure, rich soil, good drainage and beautifully located mountain range, where it was built by one of the best houses in the Douro. Another confirmation of the successful growth of the company was the construction in 1890, the magnificent wine cellar for aging and storage of wines in the best conditions. This building is impressive in its scope, in its solid granite walls still held 3,500 boxes of port as well as a large cellar. Raised in Vila Nova de Gaia, close to the Atlantic Ocean, this building is a beautiful wine of the ancient city of Oporto across the river Douro and discreet maritime climate is ideal for slow shutter port.
Meanwhile, Grem's continued to develop close ties with the owners of numerous farms that supplied the company since its inception. These relationships are built on trust and respect, ensure consistent quality by which Grem's won a high reputation. A number of wonderful vintages produced by Grem's - this milestone in the history of port: 1908, 1912, 1924 and 1927, followed by a grand 1945 and the legendary 1948 vintage. They all confirm the fact that Graham's - one of the best names in the world of port.
In 2005, the famous British wine critic Jancis Robinson wrote: "I am still mentally enjoy what was probably the best wine that I was lucky enough to try a vacation - a bottle of Graham's Vintage Port 1948". It was a legacy of excellence, which is transmitted from one another family, when in 1970 the family sold the company to Graham Symington who brought the their own knowledge and experience in the sale of wines. Peter Symington, the current owner of the company, six times honored with the title "Winemaker of the Year" by Wine Challenge, more than anyone could not win the award twice. In 2003, his son Charles received a similar title!
