Producer's description
The history of Fattoria Le Pupille is closely linked to the name of Elisabetta Geppetti, so it is no coincidence that every bottle of wine produced at Le Pupille bears this name. In the 1970s, Fattoria Le Pupille was simply a small farm that owned two hectares of Sangiovese, from which small batches of good red wine were produced. In 1978, the DOC Morellino di Scansano was created and in the same year, the first vintage of this wine was produced at Le Pupille. Elisabetta began to personally develop and improve this small vineyard with one very clear goal - to make great wines. The first vintages, 1982 and 1983, were produced under the guidance of the famous expert Giacomo Tachis, and since 1985 Elisabetta Geppetti has been producing Morellino di Scansano herself. In 1987, she created a wine called Saffredi, about the 2004 vintage of which the famous wine critic of the magazine "Wine Advocate" Antonio Galloni said: "The owner Elisabetta Geppetti has made many amazing wines, but with her Saffredi 2004 she hit the nail on the head" . Beginning in 1989, Elisabetta began to form vineyards for future white wines: dry "Poggio Argentato" and sweet "Sol Alto".
Since the 1990s, Fattoria Le Pupille has established itself on the international wine market. Critics have praised the excellence of its wines and the consistency of their quality, especially the Suffredi, which can be found on the wine lists of the best restaurants around the world. But Le Pupille did not stop there. Elisabetta Geppetti, who founded the Morellino di Scansano Consortium in 1992 and became its first president, began to look for land for new vineyards and new varieties. Elisabetta’s work never stops, constantly moving forward, making amazing progress in winemaking. In 2006, leading German magazines Der Feinschmecker and Wein Gourmet awarded Elisabetta Geppetti the title of “Winemaker of the Year”, making her the first woman to receive this award.
