Interesting Facts

Appellason Volnay - the bulwark of Monte family - has 207 hectares of vineyards located in the middle of the slope, including 29 class sections Premier Cru. The name of the site "Les Mitans" comes from the word "mean" or "average", it is beautifully situated in the middle of the slope, which receives plenty of sunlight in the morning. The soil of the vineyard is made up of different elements, with limestone and rubble in the upper part and deep clay subsoil. This diversity provides a complexity that can be found in wine Volnay 1-er Cru "Les Mitans".

Very nice vintage 2011 combines the best characteristics of the wines of previous years. The manufacturer believes that the best words which characterize this vintage will be: freshness, energy, transparency, fluidity, balance and harmony. "The wine surprised us and the quality of tannins," which, of course, will give the wine a long life, it will age very well and keep its splendor to the 2025-2030 year.

Producer's description

Date of foundation Domaine de Montille goes far XVII century, at a time when the family belonged to the best plots Monte Volnay, Musigny, Bon Mar and Chambolle-Musigny with a total area of 12 hectares. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties at the beginning of the XX century, the winery has gradually become to sell their land. When Hubert de Montille in 1947 inherited the vineyard from his father, their area was only 3 hectares. Over the years he developed a family wine business in freestyle and also worked as a lawyer in Dijon. In the 1950s saw the birth of a new Burgundy type of viticulture. "My father - a man of character and taste. He quickly realized that he wanted to create wines that he loves himself. First of all, my father wanted to pay tribute to each terroir, creating wines with elegance and refined aromatic purity" - says Etienne son of Hubert.
Children of Hubert Etienne and Alix, learn about winemaking at an early age, but their father would never have passed the baton to wine production without studying the real profession. At that time, the children followed in the footsteps of the family, focusing on your legal career, return to winemaking was inevitable. In 1983, Etienne joined the family business in 2001, he became full control Domaine de Montille and Chateau de Puligny-Montrachet, and his style and philosophy became biodynamic farming. In 2003, Alix joined his brother and they created Deux Montille Sœur-Frere - negotsiantsky house, whose main task was the production of white wines.
To date, the vineyards Domaine de Monte has 20 hectares, of which 75% - a prime vineyards or Grand Cru.
