Producer's description
Domain Ponce was founded in 1872, when William Ponce, who returned from the Franco-Prussian War, bought a house and several vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis. Gradually expanding, William buys plots in Clos de la Roche and Clos des Monts-Luisants, where in 1911 disembarks Aligote. Aliquot landing was unusual at the time, most manufacturers of white wines in Burgundy inclined to a more economical and sustainable Chardonnay. William also acquires sites in the vineyards "Les Combottes" and "Les Charmes" appellasone in Gevrey-Chambertin. William produced a small amount of wine, mainly for private use and for casual dining. In 1920, the domain management Ponce goes to his nephew and godson, William - diplomat Hippolyte Ponce. With the help of his brother Henry Ponce, also a diplomat (Resident General in Morocco, the French ambassador in several countries), Hippolyte significantly increases the size of the vineyards at the Clos de la Roche.
Domaine Ponsot began bottling wines under his own name in 1934, which was rare at the time, only a dozen households did so before the Second World War. Domain also began selling their wines outside of France - in the US and many European countries. The first label wines were hand-stamped and signed by Hippolytus. In 1935-36 Hippolyte took an active part in the process of assigning the vineyards of Burgundy status AOC, where to use his legal education. In 1957, Hippolyte Ponce transfer the domain to his son - Jean-Marie Pons, who worked on the farm since 1942 as a winemaker and agronomist. In 1961, Domaine Ponsot rented several new sites in Chambolle-Musigny, Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin. Over time, the domain is not only increased the number of leased sites, but also acquired a new property.
Today Domain Ponce, Ponce controlled Laurent, produces a wide range of Burgundy wines from different terroirs. In the vineyards biodynamic farming practiced cultivation without using pesticides or herbicides. The main varieties of the farm are Pinot Noir and Aligoté. Wine Domain Ponce widely known in the world and are highly prized for wine auctions.
