The Wine Company of Northern Spain (CVNE) , founded in 1879 by brothers Raimundo and Eusebio Real de Azua, is considered the oldest winery in Spain. The poor health of Eusebio, whose doctor recommended a dry climate, was the reason why the brothers decided to settle in the province. Having chosen the city of Haro, located in Rioja Alta, to live, they quickly appreciated the high potential of the region in the field of winemaking and decided to start this type of business. The first "Cune" wine introduced by CVNE bore the winery's name.
