Initially , Chateau Potensac belonged to the Licard family, but it passed into the possession of the Delon family after the marriage of Paul Delon and Licard's daughter. It is worth mentioning that the name Delon is much more famous in the winemaking world. They also own Château Leville La Cas in Saint-Julien and Château Nenin in Pomerol. Château Potensac produces two wines - Cru Bourgeois and La Chapelle de Potensac. This land is famous for the variety of local soils, and hence the varieties of grapes grown here. Château Potensac in the production of wines follows a very strict tradition of the Medoc, while the wine Château Potensac Cru Bourgeois has a very high aging potential.

The vineyards of Château Potensac are located on the clay-pebble soils of the commune of Ordonac in the north of the Medoc, and produce wines of a much higher class than other vineyards in this part of the Medoc. First of all, this is due to the fact that the vine is heavily pruned, due to which it brings tiny crops of grapes of the highest quality. During the last decades, the 53 hectares of Château Potensac vineyards were dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, which accounted for about 60% of the area, while Merlot occupied 25%, and Cabernet Franc - 15%. But with the purchase of new Merlot vines, it was this variety that became dominant, and since 2005, the blend of the first wine of the economy - "Chateau Potensac" - has been somewhat changed in favor of Merlot.
