Interesting Facts
To create a dry red wine "Borsao" Garnacha producer uses grapes varieties Garnacha, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, harvested from 10-15-year-old vines grown on chalky soils. After harvest, the crop is transported to the winery, where it is subjected to alcoholic fermentation in special tanks at a temperature of 22-25 ° C. Each variety is vinified separately from the others, and then mixed immediately prior to bottling.
Wine "Borsao" Clasico, Garnacha, 2017 was awarded a bronze medal at the Japan Wine Challenge in August 2018.
The history of the founding of the winery Bodegas Borsao dates back to 1958, when the Campo de Borja Cooperative was created. This is where the Borsao brand originated. After some time, the company was joined by the cooperatives from the municipalities of Tabuenca and Pozuelo, along with their extensive vineyards. This happened in 2001, and then a new company came into being, called Bodegas Borsao. The young company included 620 participants who set themselves the main task of absolute renewal and improvement of the principles of winemaking: from the method of caring for vineyards to upgrading equipment in wineries.
Campo de Borja DO is located on the right bank of the Ebro River, south of Navarre, around the ancient city of Borja. Grape growing has been practiced here since the 13th century. Then the monks from the monastery of Veruela did a lot for the development of viticulture and winemaking in the region. The vineyards are surrounded by the mountains of the Sierra del Moncayo and are located in hilly terrain at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level. The climate here is rather severe - with cold winters, very hot summers and frequent frosts in spring, the cold wind "El Sierzo" comes from the Pyrenees. The Garnacha variety occupies 75% of the planting on these lands, which with certainty makes it possible to call the region “Garnacha Empire”.
