Batard - one of the greatest white wines of Cote de Beaune. According to legend, Lord Puligny in the Middle Ages divided his fortune among his children: the eldest son of "chevalier" (knight), the daughters of "pucelles" (young girls) and their son, born out of wedlock, - "batard". Battery-Montrachet is located on a gentle slope between Puligny and Chassagne. Soil of the vineyard consists of brownish limestone mixed with gravel. The secret of this exceptional terroir is a unique collaboration between the deep layers of limestone and the roots of old vines with an average age of 69 years. Drouhin winery owns a small plot of 0.1 ha. Since 1990, Joseph Drouhin approved the vineyard biological and biodynamic approach. Only natural products are used in the household, all the procedures are carefully selected for these soils, the vine and the environment. To achieve the desired quality has been set high density planting grapes - up to 12,500 vines per hectare c low yield - 20% less than allowed by applicable law.
Today owning Joseph Drouhin over 75 hectares of vineyards and is considered the largest in the region.
