Red wine "Rosso di Montalcino" is made from Sangiovese grapes, or rather of his 8 clones are grown on 12 hectares of magnificent vineyards located in the area of Castelnuovo dell'Abate, at the main mountain of Tuscany - Amiata at three altitudes (200, 300, and 450 m). Average age of the vines - 20 years. Piero Palmuchchi does not distinguish between the berries for the production of its wines, the difference between them is only in the vinification and aging. Hand harvesting is carried out in two stages: in June and late July-early August. After fermentation, the berries in steel tanks at controlled temperature for 30-35 days with regular immersion "caps", followed by a secondary malolactic fermentation. Matured "Rosso di Montalcino" in "Botti" Slavonian oak for 24 months and 6 months in bottles. Before bottling the wine is not filtered.
Winery "Poggio di Sotto" was founded in 1989 when the famous Italian winemaker Piero Palmuchchi began searching for the best land in the region of Montalcino for a perfect, balanced ripening grape Sangiovese. Such a place was found close to the medieval abbey Sant'Antimo, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate. Together with agrokulturnogo Faculty, University of Milan, he began landing new vineyards, selected the best Sangiovese clones for this terroir, calculate the optimum planting density and used the most successful technology of growing grapes.
