In 1967, the Lugano area has been recognized DOC, one of the first of such zones in Italy. Today, in this region produced high-quality wines from grapes Trebbiano di Lugana. This variety is widespread in Italy, since it is well adapted to the local climate and soils. The village of San Benedetto is located between Desenzano and Peschiera.
