The founder of Chateau Cos d'Esturnel Louis Gaspard d'Esturnel, born in 1762, the year of the reign of Louis XV and had lived 91 years, there was only one passion: Chateau Cos. Having inherited a small vineyard, in 1811 he produced the first wine and decided to devote himself vinification, experimenting with varieties and their treatment. Fast enough wine Cos d'Estournel surpassed in popularity many of the most prestigious wines and even began to export to India. Louis even earned the nickname "the Maharajah of Saint Estephe."
