Wine Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2004 is made from Sangiovese grapes harvested from vines growing on sandy soils rich in limestone. Vintage 2004 met the expectations of winemakers, he was much better than in the previous two years. Due to the abundance of rain in May, the vines were able to make a good supply of water for the summer months. Warm September 2004 contributed to the harmonious ripening and thus the crop was particularly successful.
Volpaya Castle (Castello di Volpaia) was built in the eleventh century, far from strengthening in order to create on the border of Florence and Siena. At present, there remain only two of the six ancient towers and part of the original defensive walls surrounding the castle.
